Honest Answers Before You Even Book
These are the things DMV households bring up most often the moment they reach out, each one spelled out without spin by the very crew that’ll be carrying your furniture down the stairs. Fill out the short form and we’ll have your exact figure ready to go. Something on your mind that isn’t covered? Ring Marcus and the team at (888) 711-4778, or fire off a quick message to [email protected], and we’ll walk through it with you one-on-one.
Do you operate your own crews, or are you a broker?
We are. Motivated Moving Solutions owns every truck in the fleet, keeps its own movers on payroll, operates a climate-controlled warehouse, and stays fully licensed and insured across the region. Work that stays local rides on our Virginia and Maryland household-goods authority and our District operating license; cross-country jobs run beneath our own US DOT and MC registration. Your relocation belongs to our people start to finish — from the moment box one goes up the ramp to the second your last item lands — and gets handed to no outside hauler along the way.
If our two closing dates don't sync, will your warehouse cover the gap?
Precisely why the warehouse exists. Hardly anyone in this market sees their sale and their purchase wire on a single afternoon, so we'll roll your possessions right into the dry, temperature-regulated building and keep them as long as you need — a few days, a few weeks, a whole season. Once the keys to the new place are in hand, that same crew loads everything back up and wraps things up. Flag it during your call and the warehousing folds into a single binding figure.
Our building is an Arlington high-rise that wants a certificate of insurance — can you handle that?
Constantly. So much of our calendar is tower and condo work, and management at those addresses typically won't unlock the freight elevator or the dock until a COI naming them is in hand. Renee handles those certificates as a matter of routine, then squares away the elevator booking and the dock window with your concierge ahead of time — so the morning kicks off on schedule rather than stalling at the security desk.
We're in a downtown building with no driveway and tight street parking — where does the truck go?
No obstacle, provided you mention it before pricing. A good chunk of our addresses leave one realistic option: a Metro-accessible permit-parking spot we lock down ahead of time, or a scheduled dock slot. Securing that permit or that window is part of how we map out the day, and the resulting walk gets baked into your number right away. Since it's a binding flat rate, that distance can't resurface later as some 'difficult access' surcharge once the truck pulls up.
How does a binding flat rate work, and is there any way the price creeps up on me?
We add up the full list of what's moving and hand you a single locked number to approve in advance — and that number is what you owe. Crawling I-66 traffic stretching the day out won't push it higher, and no one's relabeling your safe 'oversized' to inflate it. The lone thing that shifts the figure is you deciding to tack on more items or services down the line. No hidden meter is ticking off to the side.
Do you take relocations that leave the region for another state?
Without question. Devon runs our long-haul side, and DMV families head out with us regularly — up I-95 toward New York and Boston, south into the Carolinas and Atlanta, west to Pittsburgh and well past it. Carrying our own US DOT and MC authority means whoever loads you here in DC or Arlington is the very crew that sets your things down at the destination — the keys never pass to a stranger.
Could a snowstorm or icy roads throw off our scheduled date?
We plan for that possibility rather than hope it skips us. A genuine ice event around here can glaze the Beltway and the parkways and freeze everything for a day, which is why our cold-season schedule is padded and the forecast stays on our radar. Should conditions turn truly dangerous, protecting your belongings and our crew on slick ramps beats pushing through, so we'd sooner move your date — and you'll get that news straight from us, clearly, with plenty of lead time.
Can your team get heavy pieces down the narrow stairs in an older rowhouse?
All the time. The brick rowhouses across Capitol Hill and Georgetown come with cramped, winding staircases and shallow landings, so Andre — our point man on delicate, high-stakes pieces — surveys the entire route before a single thing gets lifted. Threading a sofa, a china hutch, or a piano around a tricky century-old corner without nicking the plaster is exactly his specialty.
Does getting an estimate cost anything, and do you require money down?
Pricing is free, no asterisk. When you're set to nail a definite day onto the calendar, the only ask is a small, fully refundable deposit, which we credit against your final balance. Back out inside our cancellation window and that deposit returns to you.
Do you genuinely carry the proper licenses and insurance across the region?
Yes, on every front. In-region jobs are covered by our Virginia and Maryland household-goods authority, the District is covered by our operating license, and interstate runs sit under our US DOT and MC numbers — all of it properly licensed and insured. Every move carries a full $1M in cargo coverage, and we'll hand over documentation on request, a formal certificate of insurance included whenever an HOA or building office demands one.
On a standard local job, what's actually bundled into the rate?
A local rate folds in the crew, the truck plus fuel, pads and blankets, stretch wrap, dollies, floor and door-frame guards, and the standard taking-apart and putting-back-together of beds and everyday furniture. Want packing supplies or a full white-glove pack? Each of those lands on its own line, so the bill reflects only what you genuinely use.
What happens if something of mine ends up damaged along the way?
Doubtful, given that every item is pad-wrapped and entered on the inventory long before it nears the truck. But if a mark does happen, the responsibility is ours — we'll fix it, swap it, or pay you for it — with $1M in cargo coverage behind the job and base released-value protection at $0.60 per pound. Hand the claim to Renee at the office and we carry it from there. That's language baked into your contract, not a marketing line.
